A major traffic disruption unfolded today along Interstate 580 near Damonte Ranch Parkway in Reno, Nevada, after a dump truck rollover crash injured one driver and forced temporary lane closures in both directions of the freeway. The incident created significant delays for commuters traveling through the south Reno corridor during the busy morning hours.
According to Nevada State Police, the crash occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. and involved two dump trucks traveling southbound on I-580. Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the trucks made an unsafe lane change, striking the second dump truck and causing it to lose control and overturn into the median. The overturned vehicle spilled dirt across the northbound lanes, leading to lane reductions and intermittent closures in both directions of the interstate.
Emergency crews, including Nevada Highway Patrol and local first responders, quickly arrived at the scene to manage traffic, assist those involved, and begin cleanup operations. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the overturned truck was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No fatalities were reported in connection with the accident.
The crash caused severe backups stretching for miles, with some traffic delays reportedly extending toward the Mt. Rose Highway exit. Drivers described the congestion as one of the more frustrating morning commutes in recent memory as crews worked to remove debris and reopen lanes safely.
Officials temporarily reduced both northbound and southbound traffic to a single lane while recovery efforts continued. Authorities also warned drivers to expect intermittent full closures during the cleanup and investigation process. By later in the day, all lanes were eventually reopened to traffic.
The crash remains under investigation as troopers continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision. Motorists traveling through the area are urged to remain cautious, follow posted traffic advisories, and allow additional travel time when driving through Reno freeway corridors.
